text Loquats are a specialty fruit in Kuohsing County, with the Kanlin Loquat being the most popular in Taiwan. There are approximately 150 hectares of Loquat plantations in Kuohsing, mainly of the Mozi variety. The loquat plantations are distributed along the various villages next to Chungtan provincial highway. At its prime, the production of loquats in Kuohsing accounted for 70% of national output, and is currently ranked 2nd in the country, with the origin of production in Kanlin village. Due to the abundance of sunlight, loquats produced here are tender, juicy, colorful and with just the right sweet and sourness. The famers’ dedication and care have produced plump loquats that cannot be matched elsewhere in Taiwan; the quality is top of the range in Taiwan and favored by consumers. From February till April each year is the harvest period, with many roadside vendors selling Loquat by the Chungtan provincial highway.
